If you plan to conduct household surveys, one issue is how to design questionnaires.
Volume 3 of Grosh and Glewwe eds. Designing household survey questionnaires for developing countries lessons from 15 years of the living standards measurement study (Oxford University Press, 2000) provides model questionnaire modules for various topics (consumption, education, health, employment, anthropometry, income transfers, fertility, migration, savings, credit, time use, etc.). This book (including Volumes 1 and 2) is downloadable for free from a World Bank webpage. Starting with these model questionnaires and revising them where appropriate is probably an efficient way of designing your own questionnaires.
