Diego Comin, William Easterly, and Eric Gong (2010) have compiled the historical cross-country data on the degree of technology adoption in agriculture, transportation, communication, military and industry at three points in time: 1000 B.C., 0 A.D. and 1500 A.D.
See Diego Comin's website for the documentation and the data.
Used by Putterman and Weil (2010) as an alternative measure of early development.
